Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
If you are looking for a DJ, you have a lot of questions. Here you can find the answers.
If you had to describe your personal style, what would you answer?
At club and company events, I always put on songs of all genres that are easy to dance to. The same applies to weddings. Since the guests at weddings are very heterogeneous, it is important to again and again cater to all the different musical tastes in the course of the evening.
Generally, I am very open to many styles of music, but I try to adhere to a personal level of comfort. I am therefore not the right fit for Ballermann or Schlager weddings. If this is what you are looking for, there are other DJs who would be a better fit for you. My goal is to get you and your guests on the dance floor with great music that is fun to dance to and to keep you there – which definitely does NOT happen because of me animating the guests via microphone!
Do you offer a consultation so that we can get to know each other in person?
Yes, absolutely! I think that a first consultation is essential. This way, you and I get a good idea if I’m the right DJ for you. I certainly do not belong to the kind of DJs who announces the songs or encourages the guests to take action, so I always want to make sure that your expectations of a DJ are clear beforehand. Incidentally, the consultation is also completely non-binding and free of charge. It can either take place in Düsseldorf or online via Skype or FaceTime or by phone if you are unable to come to Düsseldorf. Usually, I work as a DJ in the Düsseldorf, Cologne and NRW area, but I can be booked in other parts of Germany as well. However, what’s important to me is that we only meet for a consultation in case booking me is within your budget. Otherwise the consultation would be a waste of time for all participants.
How far in advance should we book you?
The earlier, the better. After all, I can only be in one place at a time 🙂 If I have already been booked on your wedding day, I will certainly be able to help and recommend a great colleague for you, though.
Can we book you as a DJ individually and, if necessary, rent the equipment you need?
Both are possible: You can book me as a DJ and also the right equipment if your wedding location requires it. I will send you the details by email. Please note that, if you decide to use the equipment of the location, I cannot guarantee the sound quality. In this case, you should definitely send me a technical sheet of the technology I will be using in advance. Unfortunately, some wedding locations are unaware that they are using equipment that should have been disposed of many years ago 🙂 Some even do this quite deliberately.
What equipment do you have?
I work with professional audio and lighting equipment. I use the mixing desk Pioneer DDJ-SX2 and Serato DJ as well as a Macbook Pro Retina 13″. I also use the active speakers QSC K8 / QSC K10 plus bass cubes. A wireless microphone is included by default and, if necessary, a second one can be booked as well.
How long will you stay at the location on our wedding day? Do you have an open end policy or will you be leaving at an agreed time?
It varies which is why this is something we can discuss in advance. A good reference point for the different packages is my price list, which I will send you via email.
How would you handle song requests at our wedding?
Generally, I am open to requests, but I always try to integrate them into the context of the evening. There is no such thing as a wrong song but definitely the wrong song at the wrong time. Should a desired song be highly inappropriate in my view, I will suggest the guest an alternative.
Can we tell you in advance which songs we definitely do not want to hear?
Absolutely. You can tell me individual songs or genres that you absolutely do not want to hear. Should your guests request exactly those songs or genres, I will tell them that I cannot play them.
Can we tell you songs that we really want to hear on our wedding day?
Of course you can send me a list of songs in advance. This also gives me a good impression of what genres you would like to hear. The list should not exceed 25 songs, however, because there should still be room for some little surprises.
How do you handle when nobody dances at our wedding?
Good question, that has never happened before. There are some golden rules that you should keep in mind at your wedding, which I will gladly explain during your consultation. I will tell you one thing in advance, though: Usually, the newlyweds themselves have a decisive influence on what is happening on the dance floor!
Is there something to consider in regard to our choice of location when it comes to your work?
I usually advise all couples to clearly clarify in advance whether there are any volume restrictions at the location or not. Especially if the party aspect is very important to you, I would even go so far as to put the statements of the location manager down in writing. Unfortunately, I have often seen locations that are subject to strong volume restrictions, but conceal this from their customers or at the very least portray it as more harmless than is actually the case. That is why it is important to cover your back!
As I am often booked as a DJ for weddings in North Rhine-Westphalia, I work closely with some wedding locations in the area of Düsseldorf, Cologne and NRW – you will find a small selection in the section “wedding locations“.
What happens if you break your leg the day before our wedding?
Since I’ve been DJ’ing in practically all the relevant clubs in and around Düsseldorf, Cologne and North Rhine-Westphalia, I know a large number of DJs that I can rely on in case of an emergency. Incidentally, this emergency has never occurred. I have always arrived on site as promised. I know that many DJs have a reputation for being unreliable, but for me it’s perfectly natural to always be punctual and stick to what has been agreed upon!
Do you mind if we share your contact details with groomsmen, relatives or our master of ceremonies before the wedding so that they can approach you if they have any questions?
Not at all. That is perfectly fine!
Do you only work in Düsseldorf or NRW?
No, I can be booked throughout Germany and am not averse to international gigs!
How do we pay you?
If you decide to accept my offer, I will send you an invoice for one third of the contract value. I will hand you the bill for the remaining amount on your wedding day, which can then either be paid in cash or subsequently via bank transfer.
